Science map V2 starts shipping; also: 1 pledge =~ 0.05 orders

After a dozen or so tweaks and small crises, the second edition of our print Relationships among scientific paradigms rolled off the presses today; we will begin shipping tomorrow.

We greatly appreciate all the patience a literal thousand or more of you have shown, and are sure you’ll think the result is worth the wait: ten full spot colors (most are colors that can’t even be reproduced withing the CMYK or RBG colora gamuts), three times through the Stinehour's 4-station press. Even the pressmen remarked on how good it looks, we’re told, and Stinehour prints for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.

It should be at your door in at most two more weeks (a little longer if you’re overseas). Enjoy!

On a slightly more disappointing note, the value of a pledge seems somewhat lower than we expected: of the almost 200 people who pledged to donate in exchange for calendars and 200 more who clicked “print them just so I have the option” about 15 people have actually ordered them. Probably our fault because of the month delay in printing those, too. But they’re available if you want them, nine pieces per package, in all.

I like it, but...

the ink seems to be very light on my poster. The black ink is very clear, but the color words indicating the paradigms are difficult to read.
I can't complain though. Minimal cost, and a beautiful poster.

I had it laminated at a Staples store nearby, since the paper, I think, is not nearly strong enough to be hung up and kept for a long time. It was just a little too wide for the laminating machine, but a paper cutter worked wonderfully.

Thank you; I love the changes.

A second hit of color on labels

Thanks Nsasch, glad you found it worth laminating.

I’m doing a delicate balancing act with those color labels: I want you to be able to ignore them and concentrate on the actual structure of the network when looking at the whole—that requires the lightest possible ink. Then I want the labels to be barely readable, as second layer, when you lean close; sort of an interactive print: where leaning forward is equivalent to a mouse click or cursor hover.

If the ink’s too light for that peering, second-level reading, drop me a line: we printed some with two hits of ink on the faintest labels—I’ll send you one of those.

great

Looking forward to receive it! :-)
